Poem of the Week: The Morality of Compromise

By Nehi Igbinijesu

Failed

What thought we’d never do

Did we shameless-loathed

Abased but our janus appeased

Straddled along frigid banisters

And lonely staircases creaking

With sounds disorderly

No inhibitions- no cares

Forgetful of nuptial daliiances

Wreaking gleefully at rompous booty

To stay alive pleasuring

At a gun’s barrel headward

Of a knackered-brained killer

Moralising our compromise

Satiated yet sorrowful

With filth filled stomachs

Drenched by a pale full

From the River Styx

Had I known that this would entail

The killing of thine own soul

Left alone I would prefer

Than destroy more than repair
