Readily I cry sore Staring with pepper Perturbing both eyes In tears of blood streaming Snaking down amidst many lies Hands gently smooching My uneasy head compelling To end the brittle knottings Of dried palm leaves here and there Bitten once And twice I cried By a bug called love Of country, kith and clime Reduced still to dirges Reminiscing when I tried Afforded by an hour So tender yet so cruel The firewood united burn In clasps of harmony With warmth and fill Of supper on a cold tonight Yet the smoke had left me crying!   This Poem is part of the anthology of 30 Poems titled: “Dirges of The Niger” By Nehi Igbinijesu.
