After the successful conduct of the Kaduna International Half Marathon in Kaduna State, the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), in its bid to discover talents in various parts of the federation, has concluded plans for the maiden edition of the Ogbomosho Marathon, slated to hold in Ogbomosho, Oyo State, on Saturday, November 28, 2020. Speaking ahead of the tournament, the Secretary-General of the Olamide George led AFN, Niyi Beyioku, disclosed that the race is strictly restricted to athletes in Ogbomosho and close environs in other to promote the culture of the marathon race in that part of the country and equally identify hidden talents.

The race has received the endorsement from the AFN and we are delighted that it is one that is strictly restricted to athletes around Ogbomosho and its environs which is a bold move to create the culture of road running in that part of the country as well as unearth talents that can be groomed. This is one of the reasons the race got the nod from the AFN-Niyi Beyioku

The Ogbomosho Marathon which will see athletes run a 10km race has so far confirmed the registration of over 1000 athletes across Local Governments in Oyo State. Among other dignitaries expected to grace the event on Saturday is the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engineer Seyi Makinde, Nigerian Sports Minister, Mr. Sunday Dare, and the AFN Ag President, Olamide George.
