Super Falcons ace striker, Asisat Oshoala, is hopeful that Nigeria can claim a well deserved win against France in their final group game on Monday, June 17, at the Stade de la Route Loreint in Rennes.
The Falcons suffered a 3-0 loss to Norway in their opening game a the FIFA Women’s World Cup and were desperate for a win against South Korea, who also fell to France 4-0.
Oshoala delivered one of her best performances for Nigeria as the Falcons defeated the Koreans 2-0 on Wednesday, improving their chances of qualifying from the group stage.
The French team, on the other hand, have had two straight wins, and will be looking to extend their winning streak when they face the Falcons.
However, with Nigeria’s new found strength, the Falcons, who have been largely referred to as the underdogs of the match, might prove a rather hard nut for France to crack.
Speaking to FIFA after Nigeria’s win against South Korea, Oshoala said the team went out to enjoy the game.
“At first, I think we were a little bit scared of losing and going out. But after a while, we just decided to go for it. I always say that I’m never under pressure. I just go on the pitch and do my job.
“It’s an 11-player game and I just look to enjoy the game, have fun and do the right thing for my team. The group is wide open now. We just have to concentrate now on making sure we get the points we need against France.”
