Onyinyechi Mark, 23, out-lifted opponents in the La Chapelle Arena, such as China’s Cui Jianjin, who won silver after lifting 140 kg, and Mexico’s Amelia Perez, who lifted 130 kg to win bronze at the global event in Paris, France. The win is Nigeria’s first gold in the 2024 Paralympic Games and the country’s third medal in the event after Eniola Bolaji won bronze, Nigeria’s first medal in the 2024 Games, in the women’s singles SL3 badminton event, and Esther Nworgu won Nigeria a silver medal in the women’s 41 kg para-powerlifting event.
