Super Eagles forward Henry Onyekuru has begun his first phase of training after three months off the pitch. Onyekuru sustained a knee injury while in action for Anderlecht on 22 December 2017 and has since been recuperating. After the injury, the player was taken to his parent club, Everton FC in England where he received treatment. Henry Onyekuru took to his twitter handle to express his joy to be back running on the pitch with the ball. Earlier this month, the player put up a video and made a tweet, thanking Everton FC and Super Eagles’ fans for their support and kind messages through his recovery stage, but the video was taken down due to copyright issues. Yesterday, Onyekuru put up another video of himself in training expressing his delight to be back on the ball: In February, while still on injury leave, he received the Belgium Talent of the year award after scoring nine goals in 19 appearances in the Jupiler Pro League for Anderlecht this season. Onyekuru hopes to make it to the 2018 FIFA World Cup with Nigeria, but the player would have to be fully recovered before he can make a comeback for the Super Eagles.
