After failing to find the back of the net in Genk’s 2-0 loss against Royal Mouscron on Saturday, January 16, the Nigerian forward returned to the scoring sheet on Thursday night but his effort was not good enough to hand his team victory as they settled for a 1-1 draw at the Luminus Arena. A pass from Theo Bongonda saw Onuachu grab the opener in the seventh minute of the encounter but Genk’s lead was short-lived as a Roman Yaremchuk equalizer in the stoppage-time of the first-half meant they had to share the spoils.

Despite scoring the opener, Onuachu did not last too long on the pitch as he was substituted in the 31st minute of the encounter. His 20th league goal saw him stretch his dominance on top of the Belgian league scorers’ chart as he remains on course to break the league’s all-time highest goal scorer record. Another Nigerian in the Genk squad, Cyriel Dessers, had just five minutes in the game as he was introduced in the 85th minute. Genk’s result means they maintain their second spot on the league log with 39 points out of 22 games, behind Club Brugge who sit comfortably on the league summit with 48 points out of 22 games. Onuachu and his teammates will look to reduce the points deficit when they travel to Club Brugge on Sunday, January 24. Source: Goal Featured Image Source: BrilaÂ
