With no chance of advancing into the next round of the Europa League after securing just a point from five games in the European tournament, Trabzonspor’s manager, Unal Karaman, decided to rest his regular stars including retired Super Eagles captain, Mikel Obi, and fellow compatriot, Anthony Nwakaeme, giving Onazi a chance to reclaim his place in the starting eleven.

Onazi was on for 51 minutes and could not help his team avoid defeat as goals from Silvan Widmer and Valentin Stocker were all the opponents needed to cruise to a 2-0 victory over Trabzonspor. Trabzonspor is set to take on Denizlispor on December 16, 2019, and Onazi will be hoping to play a part in the crucial encounter.
