International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) silver label Okpekpe 10km Road Race, is in the process of getting a revamped track as the Edo State Government has begun rehabilitation work on the road from Apana Road to Okpekpe.
The global event which will hold on May 25, will feature participation from top marathon runners from within Africa and across the globe, as they compete for honors in the silver label race.
Mike Itemuagbor, an indigene of Okpekpe and promoter of the international race, has lauded Governor Godwin Obaseki for the ongoing rehabiliation work on the road to Okpekpe, as it is in line with the organizers visions to upgrade the race to gold level status by next year.

Meanwhile, Amstel Malta has been unveiled as the official malt drink of the seventh edition of the race.
“We are delighted with the coming on board of Nigerian Breweries as a friend and strategic partner of the race. Nigerian Breweries and Okpekpe Race have a lot in common. It is the pioneer and biggest brewing company in Nigeria while one of its products, Amstel Malta is a premium malt drink with rich international heritage.” — Zak Amodu, Director of organisation of the race.
Dr. Akin Amao will once again lead the anti-doping team for the iconic race which would be broadcast live across Africa by SuperSport and also on Africa Independent Television (AIT).
