It is evident that Super Eagles international and skipper, John Obi Mikel, has returned to core training, following his impeccable performance for Middlesbrough since his arrival at the club.
Mikel has played his way into the hearts of Boro fans, who have dubbed the Nigerian, the African Zidane, due to his unrivaled skill in the midfield.
Some even say Mikel is too big a star to be in the division, and it is with good reason.
Mikel is a well decorated player, both in Europe and Africa, having won the English Premier League, UEFA Europa League, UEFA Champions League, FA Cup, Community Shield and African Cup of Nations, so far in his career.
Since Mikel’s arrival at Boro, the Nigerian has played four league games for the North English side, who are currently fifth on the league table with 54 points.
The Super Eagles skipper was named in the Championship Team of The Week, after his thrilling display for Boro in their 1-0 win over Blackburn Rovers on Sunday.
Alongside Mikel, other players who made the list include, Morecambe’s Mark Halstead, Notts County’s Sam Stubbs, and Ben Barclay; Preston North End’s Ben Davies, and MK Dons’ Jake Hesketh.
Others are, Luton Town’s George Moncur, Sheffield United’s Gary Madine, Southend United’s Simon Cox, and Norwich City duo, Teemu Pukki and Emi Buendia.
According to whoscored.com, Mikel handled the ball 63 times, made one key pass, attempted one tackle, and cleared the ball twice.
The Nigerian is expected to be back in action for Boro when they take on Queens Park Rangers this weekend.
