The Lagos State Government has banned the use of Okada, popular commercial motorcycles from transporting meats and its products across the state.
Only Authorized Refrigerated Meats Vans are allowed to transport meats from abattoirs, slaughter slabs to any other place in the state.
This was made known by the Commissioner of Agriculture, Oluwatoyin Suarau in a meeting with representatives of Lagos State Butchers Association, Eko Refrigerated Meat Van Association and Sheep and Goat Butchers Association.
The state frowns upon unwholesome transportation of meat, hence, Okada operations within the premises of meat abattoirs would no longer be tolerated. This in line with the state plans to ensure healthy, germs free and clean transportation within the state.
The state is interested in state’s food security alongside maintaining a sanitized and conducive environment and natural goodness of the red meat value chain business in Lagos.
