Futuristic Professor
The 3 part series which will comprise of
“Amazing Spiderman: Wakanda Forever”, “
X-Men: Wakanda Forever” and
“Avengers: Wakanda Forever” will be written by Dr Nnedi Okoroafor who, accordinh to
The New York Times:
has made a name for herself with novels that combine politically complex science fiction and lyrical fantasy.
Nnedi is a professor at the University at Buffalo, New York and has written several award-winning novels including
The Book of Phoenix, an Arthur C. Clarke Award finalist and
Binti Trilogy, the first of which won both the Hugo and Nebula Awards for Best Novella. She has also written
Chicken in the Kitchen, a children’s book and winner of an Africana Book Award.
“It’s been amazing [writing a new Marvel story], and I’ve learned so much along the way. Presenting a vision of the African continent through the sci-fi lens felt completely natural. I like to write the future; the Africa I feel can be and the Africa that will be, that has always been my vision. With Wakanda, a place set in the present but with a futuristic outlook, it wasn’t a hard transition—it made a lot of sense.”

Dora Milaje
The comic sequel will beam the spotlight on the
Dora Milaje, a group of all-female special forces warriors in the fictional African country called Wakanda led by General Okoye from the original Black Panther movie. They are responsible for protecting Wakanda. They fight beside T’challa in the capture of Ulysses Klaue and assist T’Challa in reclaiming the throne, but this time Marvel will be focusing on them independently.
“Typically when you see them, they’re with T’Challa, representing and protecting him. Now you’re going to see the Dora Miljae for the first time as an independent entity; they’re not under the shadow of the throne.”
— Nnedi
This is not Nnedi’s first time writing for Marvel. In 2017, she announced on Twitter that she would be writing an 8-page comic titled
Blessing in Disguise, which was her first story for Marvel. The comic is set in Lagos.
