CHELSEA 4-2 SWANSEA CITY
Nigerian midfielder, John Mikel Obi missed Chelsea’s win against high-flyers, Swansea City over the weekend. The midfield maestro who was criticized for his lacklustre display for Nigeria in their African Cup of Nations qualifiers against Congo and South Africa, wasn’t named in Chelsea squad for the game. Mikel appears to be on the fringes of the first team and may be used as a bit-part player this season.
SOUTHAMPTON 4-0 NEWCASTLE UNITED
Newcastle’s Sammy Ameobi played his first English Premier League (EPL) game at St. Mary’s Stadium, coming off the bench in the 90
th minute for French midfielder, Moussa Sissoko. The lanky midfielder had little or no time to overturn his team’s performance on the day.
STOKE CITY 0-1 LEICESTER CITY
Victor Moses may have found a place to finally call home after making his third start for Stoke City in Saturday’s fixture against newcomers, Leicester City, however, Leandro Ulloa’s goal ensured he ended up on the losing side. Osaze Odemwingie is still sidelined with a knee ligament injury and missed the game.
WEST BROM 0-2 EVERTON
West Bromwich Albion’s record signing, Brown Ideye started the game but failed to convert his chances and was withdrawn in the second half for Greek striker, Giorgios Samaras. Ideye is still searching for his first goal of the season. Fellow striker, Victor Anichebe missed the game through injury.
MANCHESTER UNITED 4-0 QPR
Nedum Onuoha who turned down Nigeria’s advances for him to play for the Super Eagles, was left on the bench as his team suffered a humiliating defeat against a new-look Manchester United at Old Trafford.
HULL CITY VS WEST HAM UNITED
Sonie Aluko and Hull City will take on West Ham United at Kingston Communications Stadium. The Nigerian midfielder is expected to start on the bench following the arrival of Hatem Ben Arfa, Mo Diame and Gaston Ramires on the final day of the transfer window. West Ham United also have Nigerian-born Carlton Cole in their ranks.
