Paul Onuachu made his debut for the Nigerian national team in an international friendly match against the Pharaohs of Egypt on March 26, 2019, and spared little time before setting the record of scoring the fastest goal in Nigeria’s international football history (fourth-fastest goal in international football history). With just 9 seconds into the game against the North Africans, Onuachu scored a belter that has since cemented his place in the Nigerian national team fold. Onuachu is not our focus for today for his exploits on the pitch alone, the philanthropy of the Super Eagles striker is worthy of emulation. In December 2020, he made the headlines for gifting his community, Umuota Agbaghara, in Imo State, electricity.

Onuachu with this act proved to a great deal that there is more to life than the fame and money that accompanies stardom. Remembering where he hails from and his resolve to save kids in the community the pain of having to grow without electricity as he did, sets a huge example for all of us. The lanky forward joined the Danish club, FC Midtjylland, in 2012 from Ebedie in Nigeria. A successful six-year stint in Denmark which included a loan spell to Vejle BK in 2015, saw him join the Belgian side, KRC Genk in 2019. Onuachu, 26, is one of Nigeria’s top performers in world football currently, we look forward to watching him break the goal record in Belgium this season.
