“From today begins Napoli’s summer retreat in Castel di Sangro aimed at preparing for the 2020/21 championship.” SSC NapoliIn the coming days, Napoli will play two friendly matches, a test match on Friday, August 28, 2020, and another against 3rd tier side, Teramo, on September 4, 2020, to complete the first phase of their pre-season. Fans of the Italian side expect Osimhen to show a glimpse of what he will do during the season in these friendlies as the Nigerian is expected to prove to critics who think he is not worth his summer price tag wrong. Osimhen, 21, joined the Italian giants this summer in a deal believed to be in the region of €70 million, making the Super Eagles striker the most expensive purchase in the history of the club, an amount which almost doubled what Napoli paid to Real Madrid in 2013 to sign Argentinian striker, Gonzalo Higuain. The fee due to add-ons are expected to rise to €80 million.

It will be recalled that Osimhen kicked off his career in Europe with German Bundesliga side, Wolfsburg, after emerging as the highest goal scorer in the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile, but a short and uneventful start in Germany meant the Nigerian striker had to join Belgian side, Sporting Charleroi to revive his career. He would go on to score 20 goals out of 36 competitive games for the Belgian side in the 2018/2019 season, earning him a significant move to French Ligue One giants, Lille, in the summer of 2019. A total of 18 goals in 38 appearances for the Les Douges meant he would attract the interest of Napoli. Source: Premium Times Featured Image Source: The Nigerian News
