The Nigerian-born fighter ‘The Natural’, won the bout comprehensively on points 100-89, 98-91, 99-90.
Speaking to the media after the fight, Ekundayo thanked his fans for their support, and for coming out to watch him defend his title. He recognized the Chairman of Bajis Group, Alhaji Buhari Sani and his wife; Segun Adeniji, Luqman Arisekola Alao and members of the Love of Christ Church who were present for the encounter.
“It’s a positive thing for me to be representing Nigeria and my family. My children were born in Britain and have never been to Nigeria. I’m doing it for them. They know their roots even though they were born here. It’s something I see as a positive thing. I get the British fans to support me too, so it’s win-win.”

Director of Africa Division, Peel Aston Global and a member of ‘Team Ekundayo,’ Khomeini Bukhari, lauded Ekundayo’s brave efforts in retaining the IBF title.
“I want to thank God and the people who have supported us on this journey, it hasn’t been easy. I hope Nigeria appreciates all of Larry’s efforts as he has brought sporting glory home. He’s proud to be a Nigerian and doesn’t hide it which I really commend. He stayed true to his country and I pray we can all follow his footsteps.”
