Adaku Ufere, a young Nigerian Attorney has won the “Attorney of the Year” awards in this year’s edition of African Legal Awards. African Legal Awards recognizes exceptional achievements within the legal industry. Just like all other Awards, the African Legal Awards is an extrinsic incentive that serves as a direct motivator for people to exert effort explicitly to win the categories of awards listed. The African Legal Awards was hosted by Legal week in association with the Corporate Counsel Association of South Africa (CCASA). This year’s edition of the African Legal Awards took place at the Wanderers Club, Johannesburg in South African, and it held on Friday, 8 September 2017. The Oil and Gas Attorney is the youngest ever and first Nigerian winner of the Attorney of the Year Award. She has highlighted the value of the Nigerian Legal society by becoming an exemplary award recipient who was selected from thousands of entries across the continent. Adaku Ufere heads the Energy practice at a pan African law firm, Centurion Law Group, has an LLB from the University of Nigeria, a BL from the Nigerian Law School, Abuja, where she had a second class upper degree. She also acquired an LLM in Oil and Gas from the University of Aberdeen in Scotland. Ufere, born into the academic family of Chief and Chief Mrs. Kingsley Ufere hails from Arondizuogu in Ideato North Local Government of Imo State. Winning awards is no new feat for her as she was recently named one of the 40 Under 40 Leading Lawyers in Nigeria at the Nigerian Legal Awards, 2016.
