Enekwechi hit the spotlight after winning silver for Nigeria in the Shot Put event of the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia. Enekwechi who specializes in throwing events would go on to clinch Gold in the shot put event of 2019 All Africa Games in Rabat, Morocco. The interesting fact about Enekwechi’s Gold medal win at the 12th All Africa Games in Morocco is that he set an all-time record for the event with his 21.48m throw, beating the previous record of 20.25m set by Frank Elemba. The reigning African champion was equally domineering in the Nigerian National Sports Festival stage before hitting bigger heights. Aside from competing, Enekwechi also works as a throws coach for West Lafayette High School in the United States.

It is not surprising that Nigerians are expecting much from Enekwechi who easily cruised to qualification for the Tokyo Olympics set to hold this year. His exploits at the World Athletics Championship in Doha, 2019, which saw him finish second and ended the competition as the only Nigerian male athlete to make any final at the event, says it all. It would not be out of place to say that Enekwechi would win a medal come the Olympics in Japan. Sources: Making of Champions Premium Times Featured Image Source: Brila
