The President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Melvin Pinnick, has assured Nigerians of a football ticket to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games in France. Nigeria’s national men’s U-23 team popularly known as the Dream Team did not qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics alongside the country’s women’s team, the Super Falcons, but Pinnick is optimistic about Nigeria’s chances for the 2024 event. The football chief did not only express optimism towards Nigeria’s qualification but assured Nigerians that the team will compete for Gold in France.

“I also pledge that our football teams will return to the Games in three years’ time in Paris and compete favourably for the gold medals.”
-Amaju Pinnick
Nigeria’s last outing in the Olympics for football was in the Rio 2016 Olympics in Brazil where the country’s men’s team won the Bronze, the country’s only medal in the 2016 edition of the event. Pinnick went further to hail Nigeria’s Sports Minister, Sunday Dare, for “exemplary” leadership during the games in Tokyo, while also commending Ese Brume for winning bronze at the event.
“The Sports Minister (Sunday Dare), in his personal capacity and the Ministry of Sports as a body worked their socks off. The Honourable Minister was exemplary; he explained, encouraged and empathized with the athletes as necessary and led the cheer at most of the venues where Nigerian athletes competed… I am happy for Ese (Brume) because I played a role in her discovery and nurturing. I am fulfilled at her career progression and I believe she will be there in Paris in three years’ time to win the gold medal.”
