Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) are reportedly in advanced talks with former Super Eagles captain Sunday Oliseh over the vacant Super Eagles coaching job. The former Borussia Dortmund, Juventus and VFL Bochum midfielder, who won 63 caps for Nigeria, is set to be appointed in the coming days. The NFF sacked Stephen Keshi on Saturday after it was alleged that he applied for the Ivorian job whilst in charge of the Super Eagles. They had placed NFF technical director Shaibu Amodu and assistant coach Salisu Yusuf in charge of the team on temporary basis but it seems they have found a suitable replacement in Oliseh. Oliseh was a member of the golden generation of Nigeria football stars, alongside Kanu Nwankwo, Austin “Jay Jay” Okocha, Finidi George, Victor Ikpeba and Uche Okechukwu. Oliseh, 40, was part of the Nigeria squad that won the Africa Cup of Nations in Tunisia in 1994 and Olympic Gold in Atlanta two years later. He also featured at the World Cup in 1994 and 1998 helping Nigeria to the last-16 at both tournaments. He is fondly remembered for his screamer in Nigeria’s 1998 World Cup opening fixture against Spain, which earned the team a shock 3-2 win. Since retiring in 2006, Oliseh has earned his coaching badges (UEFA Pro License), managed Belgian lower league side Vervietois between 2008 and 2009, done punditry and sports consultancy jobs, worked as member of FIFA Technical Committee and given talks at TEDx. However, the Chairman of the NFF Technical committee, Felix Anyansi-Agwu, rebuffed reports that Oliseh had been chosen as Super Eagles coach. “I am not aware of anything of such,” he said, according to Premium Sports.
