The Nigeria Fashion Week, having continuously provided the platform for Nigerian designers to rediscover themselves and make a success of their creative talents, is now set to present the 2012 edition of the event.
The press accreditation process for the 2012 Nigerian Fashion Week has been ongoing for two weeks, and will close on Monday, October 15, 2012. It is open to all interested media organizations. Every accredited media organization will be included in Nigeria Fashion Week’s list of media partners, and have their websites/blogs listed on the NFW website. Apart from the accreditation exercise, media organizations will also have press sessions with the CEO of Legendary Gold Ltd, organizers of the NFW, Lexy Mojo-Eyes.
The Nigerian Fashion Week is Nigeria’s foremost, annual fashion event, attracting designers, tourists, buyers, media, luxury brands, fashion organizations and fashion lovers from all over the world. Over the years, the fashion week has been able to reorient Nigerian designers to look inward for inspiration by using locally made fabrics and accessories to produce range with global appeal.
This year’s fashion week begins on Wednesday, 7th November, with a convergence of stakeholders at the M-Gallery, The Moorhouse Hotel (former Sofitel), Ikoyi, Lagos Nigeria. The opening event, tagged NFW Networking Cocktail, will be a meeting of all Nigeria Fashion Week’s media partners, designers and executives of the World Fashion Organization, including its president, Paco De Jaimes. It will be an opportunity for the media to have interactive sessions with fashion giants. Buyers from around the world, including Sidney, Toronto, Milan, Paris and New York, will be in attendance. Representatives of luxury fashion brands like Versace, Issey Miyake, etc, as well as the CEO, Legendary Gold Ltd, Lexy Mojo-Eyes will also be on ground.
The exclusive meeting of just 150 individuals of the fashion world will end with group photographs at different levels for the NFW Library.
The Fashion Week proper begins on Thursday, 8th November 2012, and ends on Saturday, 10th November 2012, with two fashion shows for each day. The event will hold at The MUSON Centre, Onikan Lagos.
Following the success of the NFW 2011 Going Green initiative, a bigger platform for eco-fashion, or sustainable fashion as it is also called during this year’s event, has been created.
In order to achieve the goal of increasing awareness about this theme, NFW 2012 “Going Green 2” will feature a ‘Going Green Collection’, an awareness walk and a tree planting exercise. In addition, guests attending the “Going Green” show will be expected to wear clothes made from recycled or/and environmentally friendly materials. A list of designers specialized in eco-fashion will be made available for purchase of outfits.
With well over one hundred and sixty million (160,000,000) people, Nigeria is not only the most populous nation in Africa, but also has developed and maintained the largest market for fashion and luxury brands. The Nigeria Fashion Week provides the world the opportunity to take advantage of this market.
