  Nigerians have continued to hit remarkable strides within and outside the country in all fields of life. A Nigerian Professor who hails from Abatete, Idemili North LGA, Anambra State, has been appointed the Vice-Chancellor of Leeds Trinity University, United Kingdom. This appointment saw the Nigerian become the first African to lead a university or college in the UK. An official statement from the high profile varsity revealed that Charles Egbu would take over leadership of the academic institution from Margaret House who is set to step down after seven years in office. Mr Egbu expressed delight at joining Leeds and is looking forward to his time at the British school.

Professor Charles who also studied and taught in the school revealed his excitement towards returning to a city (Leeds) where he spent most of his early academic life. He will assume office on November 1, 2020.

Commenting on the appointment of the Nigerian, the Chair Designate of the Board of Governors at Leeds Trinity University, Jamie Hanley, hailed the Nigerian for his impressive record at the higher education sector and is eager to see him bring his wealth of experience to the prestigious institution.

Jamie Hanley Professor Charles Egbu boasts over 25 years of experience in higher education and previously held the position of Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Education and Experience at the University of East London. A member of numerous external bodies including Advance HE Pro-Vice-Chancellor Network and QAA Panel of Experts, Professor Egbu also occupied the positions of Dean of the School of Built Environment and Architecture at London South Bank University, and Head of the School of Built Environment at the University of Salford. Some of the universities he also held academic posts include Leeds Beckett University (formerly Leeds Metropolitan), University College London, and Glasgow Caledonian University. With research interests focus on project management, construction management and sustainable development, Professor Egbu has written 12 books and equally contributed to over 350 publications in numerous international journals and conferences. Aside from his research interests, the Nigerian boasts strong links in the industrial sector, policymakers, and professional bodies, which have seen him, manage large multi-disciplinary research projects.
