The Super Eagles will be without skipper
Mikel Obi, Junior Ajayi and
Oghenekaro Etebo on Friday as they face
Poland for an
international friendly in preparation for the
Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup tournament.
Mikel Obi
Mikel was scheduled to be in Poland for the games, but due to recent mishaps, the player may miss-out on all three friendlies this month.
According to a statement from the Nigeria Football Federation, the player’s club (Tianjin Teda) have yet to give Mikel permission travel for the matches.
Team administrator, Dayo Enebi Achor disclosed to the media that the NFF had hoped the player’s work permit renewal would be cleared before the friendlies, however there may still be a very slim chance that the issues will be settled before friendlies are over.
“We all had been hoping that the renewal would come in good time for him to fly to Poland. As it is now, it is not likely that he would make the trip,”
— Dayo
Junior Ajayi
Junior Ajayi, on the other hand was unable to secure a visa for Poland in time, and will instead fly straight to London for Tuesday’s match against
Serbia at the Hive.
Oghenekaro Etebo
Etebo’s reason for missing the encounter is due to an injury he sustained.
A total number of 22 players are present in camp and have begun training for Friday’s game.
The team trained twice on Tuesday, with the same schedule for Wednesday, before Thursday’s training at match time inside the Municipal Stadium.
The match kicks off at 8.45pm GMT+1 on Friday, 23rd March.
