After netting the second goal against Nigeria, the Man City forward, Sergio Aguero, collapsed in the dressing room during half time and was quickly rushed to the medical centre for treatment.
The 29 year old became Argentina’s third highest goal scorer after his goal in the first half against Nigeria, but did not return to the field after half time and was replaced by Dario Benedetto.
The City forward suffered a rib injury in October from a car crash in Amsterdam and it was feared that the player would have to stay off the pitch for an extended period, but he was soon cleared to resume training and even went ahead to feature for City in their Premier League match and against Burnley where he scored the opener in a 3:0 win.
Following the 4:2 loss to Nigeria on Tuesday, Argentina manager Jorge Sampaoli explained on the Argentina Football federation website: “Sergio (Aguero) got dizzy and had to leave at half-time.”
Argentina cleared the air concerning Aguero’s current health situation on their twitter handle saying that “Aguero suffered a collapse and was therefore taken to carry out routine studies merely as a precaution.”
Manchester City also released a statement on their official website www.mancity.com stating that the player merely suffered a dizzy spell and has been cleared by doctors to return to the club in Manchester as scheduled. “Sergio never lost consciousness, and was taken to hospital for precautionary medical checks. He will be assessed by the club’s medical team ahead of this weekend’s Premier League trip to Leicester City” they added.
