The Super Eagles of Nigeria have ended the qualifying stage of the 2018 World Cup with an unbeaten streak as they drew their last match in a dead rubber encounter against Algeria. The matchup went underway with the Algerians taking the first touch, but as the game went on, the Eagles proved difficult to the Les Fennecs team and ball possession shifted in favor of Nigeria. At half time, both teams were still at a deadlock with no goals in from either side. The Eagles made a good second half start and in the 62nd minute, midfielder John Ogu gave Nigeria the lead with a good strike. Algeria equalised with a penalty shot in the 88th minute from forward Yacine Brahimi to end the game 1:1. The social Media was agog with words of praises to Coach G. Rohr and the entire Nigerian team for a job well done; finishing the qualifications stage with no record loses, with 14 points from six games (4 wins and 2 draws). The Super Eagles next encounter will be on Tuesday, when they play against Argentina in an international friendly in the Krasnodar Arena Stadium in Russia. Regardless of the fact that Rohr did not play a few of his best men, and gave some young players the chance to debut in the Algerian match that ended acceptably. It is consequential for the Eagles to brace up for Tuesday’s game against the Argentines as it promises to be a very tough and exiting matchup especially with the likes of Lionel Messi, Sergio Aguero, Di Maria and a few other top notch players in action for Argentina.
