After yesterday’s exciting hits in the eight zonal finals of the Akwa Ibom State/NNPC/MPN Schools Athletics Championships, today will be fireworks galore as over 9,000 students battle for the 520 spots reserved for the grand finale at the brand new Akwa Ibom International Stadium in Uyo early December.
2. In actualisation of the Federal Government’s cassava transformation agenda and the cassava inclusion policy in bread flour, the minister of Agriculture,
Dr. Adesina Akinwumi, launched the first commercial 10 per cent composite cassava flour products in the country during the week.
3. For the first time in the four years that FORBES has been tracking Africa’s richest, Nigeria beats South Africa. At the top yet again cement tycoon Aliko Dangote of Nigeria is joined on the list of Africa’s 50 Richest by 12 other countrymen.
In comparison South Africa claims 11 spots, down from 14 a year ago. Nigeria is showing its strength, having earned commendations for its efforts to snuff out Ebola in the country, which Dangote helped fund and despite a recent drop in oil prices.

Ecobank Nigeria says it has collaborated with Western Union to commence outbound money transfer service in the country. The outbound service is a provision that allows money to be sent from Nigeria to other countries. According to a statement by the bank, the service allows Nigerians to send
money abroad through any of the over 500 branches of Ecobank Nigeria.

The Federal Government has raised the alarm that the fall in oil prices is affecting the inflow of money into the excess crude account. The Minister of State for Finance, Ambassador Bashir Yuguda, said this today at the National Economic Council (NEC) meeting chaired by Vice President Mohammed Namadi Sambo. Yuguda, who represented the Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, said the Federal Government was trying hard to stabilise the currency.
6. Konga.com, Nigeria’s largest online mall, recently announced the opening of its new engineering centre in Yaba, Lagos.
The Company’s expansion to the new office was necessitated by the growth of Konga’s massive engineering team. Today, Konga.com has one of the most remarkable teams of software engineers in Nigeria comprising over 100 engineers. Most of these engineers are now located in the new Lagos office with a smaller hub opening soon in Cape Town, South Africa.

Yobe State government has expended N2.3bn on payment of allowances to 6,572 diploma holders who were engaged in its Special Youth Empowerment Programme in the last two years. Chairman of Yobe State Committee on Special Empowerment Programme, YSCSEP, Mr. Kati Machina, disclosed this during the conferment of Merit and Productivity Award and the title of ‘Garkuwan Matasa’ (Shield of Yobe Youth) on Governor Ibrahim Gaidam.

The Senate President and the Chairman of the National Assembly, David Mark, yesterday ordered the closure of the complex until Tuesday next week. His action was as a result of a clash between lawmakers and scores of security personnel, including soldiers, masked operatives and police officers that mounted a cordon around the National Assembly premises in an apparent attempt to prevent the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal and others from gaining entrance.

Royal Dutch Shell said on Thursday it had completed the sale of its 30 percent stake in Nigeria’s onshore Oil Mining Lease (OML) 24 in the Eastern Niger Delta to Newcross Exploration and Production for $600 million. French partner Total and Italy’s Eni also sold their respective 10 percent and 5 percent stakes in OML 24 to Newcross, Shell said in a statement. The Nigeria-based oil and gas exploration and production company will hold a total of 45 percent in the field.
10. The Federal Government has signed agreements with generation and distribution companies, independent power producers, international oil companies and the Nigeria Gas Company for the supply of gas.
This is to further boost power generation which hit a historic high of over 4,500MW recently in the country. The oil companies involved in the agreement signed in Abuja on Tuesday are Agip, Oando, Pan Ocean, Chevron, Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC), Nigeria Petroleum Development Company, SEPLAT Petroleum and Total.
