1. Nigeria’s GDP grew by 6.5% in Q2 2014, the Statistician-General of the Federation, Dr. Yemi Kale
is reported to have said in a statement in Abuja. Kale said the figure was 0.14 higher than 5.40 per cent recorded in the corresponding quarter of 2013, and also higher than the 6.21per cent recorded in the first quarter of 2014.
2. The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), in collaboration with the International Finance Corporation (IFC), is set to kick off the collateral registry for moveable assets in December,
Business Day reports. “With the launch of the collateral registry and the use of moveable assets, the Nigerian MSME will explode,” said Ubong Awah, the country project manager of the initiative.
3. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC)
is set to commence a housing scheme to deliver 20,000 housing units for its personnel across the country. According to FRSC Corps Marshall, Boboye Oyeyemi, the scheme, which has been tagged “Vision 20,000 Housing Project”, is a “one man, one house” residential arrangement to effectively provide affordable houses for the 20,000 strong staff of the Corps.

6.Airtel Nigeria, in collaboration with Opera Software, has established a free service for customers looking for information on the Ebola virus. The companies state that Airtel subscribers will be able to access vital information on their mobile phones without incurring data charges.
The Chief Commercial Officer, Airtel Nigeria, Maurice Newa stated, “We have all been following the news of the recent Ebola outbreak in West Africa and we want to ensure that Nigerians have access to as much information as possible to avoid contracting the virus.”
7.Nigeria’s electricity generation is reaching a two-year high of 4,044 megawatts (MW). The country’s power generation capacity currently stands at 6,000 MWs and is to the expected to grow to 40,000 MW by 2020.
The special assistant to Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Mr. Frank Edozien stated,
“The government has put in place short-term measures that will ensure steady power supply to the power plants for the generation of electricity.”
8. THISDAY reports that the Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting Services (ARFFS) of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) recently conducted a
fire simulation and prevention exercise for FAAN workers and other stakeholders operating at the Domestic Terminal 1 of the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Ikeja. The exercise, handled by the terminal’s fire officer, Mrs. Dorothy Egwu, was designed to ensure that fire safety standards are regularly maintained within the terminal.

10. A total sum of N288.98bn has been released by the
Central Bank of Nigeria to the Bank of Industry in the last four years to finance 573 projects under the Small and Medium Enterprises Restructuring Refinancing Fund. The CBN Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele said that since the cost and access to credit had continued to be an inhibiting factor to the growth of many MSMEs in the country, the CBN would be working with relevant stakeholders to establish a secured transaction and a national collateral registry to facilitate the registration and acceptability of movable property as loan collateral.
