1. It has been reported that 66,402 applications have been filed for pre-qualification since August 2 when the
federal government jump-started the new mortgage refinancing system for an initial 10,000 mass housing delivery programme.
2. The $3.8 billion
Egina floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) situated at Lagos Deep Offshore Logistics (LADOL) base, Apapa has commenced operation. This is sequel to a renewed pact between the technical facilitators, LADOL and Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI).

companies could help reduce unemployment in the country gradually by creating avenues for the youths to undergo apprenticeship training in technical skills. THISDAY reports that The Oyo State Government yesterday partnered international investor, Highland Energy Solution Services Limited (HESSL), for power generation. The investment will be solely financed by HESSL, and according to its promoter would cost $25 million which is expected to commence full operation within the next one year.
7. Mansard Insurance Plc has announced
its audited half year results for the period ended June 30, 2014 which showed it reported a 27 per cent growth in both gross premium written (GPW) and net premium income (NPI). The growth it said, was driven by increased patronage from both institutional and retail clients reported The Nation.
8.According to Business Day, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation
pledged $50 million on Wednesday to support emergency efforts to contain West Africa’s Ebola epidemic, which has already killed almost 2,300 people in the worst outbreak of the virus in history.
9.Daily Independent reports that the Federal Controller of Works in Abia, Mr Nasiru Bello, said
10 out of the 20 federal roads in the state were undergoing rehabilitation and reconstruction. According to Bello, the projects were estimated at about N120 billion.
10. More than
1,000 agriculture officials, farmers, entrepreneurs, scientists, civil society organizations and pioneers in agribusiness representing 60 countries met at the headquarters of the African Union in Addis Abba, Ethiopia for four days recently. Minister for Agriculture, Dr. Adesina Akinwumi, said that African farmers need support just like the developed countries support their farmers with massive subsidies in order for them to be successful.
