After a decent outing at the recently concluded 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt – which saw them take home the bronze medal – the Super Eagles of Nigeria will return to action cum September 10, 2019 in an international friendly against Ukraine, which will hold in the Eastern European nation’s capital, Kiev. The high profile friendly will see Nigeria square off against the Andriy Shevchenko led side.
News of the encounter was made public by the President of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Melvin Pinnick, via series of tweets. Pinnick also emphasized his administration’s efforts towards ensuring a lot of Nigerian players are exposed to international football.
Finally, we have secured a Grade A international friendly match for the Super Eagles against the Ukraine in Kiev, on the 10th of September. It is part of our on-going drive to expose as many players as we can to global football, so this should be another springboard for our young stars…. I’d like to personally thank my colleagues on the board of the Nigeria Football Federation for their continued support. I could not have asked for a better group of people to work with.
Amaju Pinnick
They truly make the job easier.
Three-time African champions, Nigeria, moved up to 33rd place in the July 2019 FIFA global rankings, a significant 12 places shift from 45th position back in June 2019 after accruing 1481 points. The team led by German tactician, Gernot Rohr, will commence their quest towards qualifying for the 2021 AFCON when they confront Benin Republic in a Group L tie scheduled to hold on November 11, 2019.
