The 2019/2020 Nigeria Professional Football League season officially kicked off on Sunday, November 3, 2019.
A 1-0 victory over Heartland FC at the Okigwe Township Stadium meant MFM FC were the only team to register an away win in the opening week of the Nigerian football league. Clement Ogwu’s goal in the 39th minute of the Okigwe contest saw MFM earn all 3 points away from Lagos their base.

Plateau United also started their league campaign on a positive note after edging out Lobi starts 3-1 at the New Jos Stadium, Plateau State. An own goal from Solomon Kwambe of Lobi stars, and goals from Silas Nerot, and Amos Gyang gifted the Jos-based side victory over Lobi Stars whose only goal came from Sikiru Alimi.

In Kano, four-time Nigerian league champions, Kano Pillars were held to a goalless draw (0-0) by Rivers United at the Sani Abacha Stadium. Delta Force and Akwa Starlets also shared the spoils in the Matchday One with a 1-1 score line.
