Leicester City forward, Kelechi Iheanacho, will get to test his skills and strength playing in place of Super Eagles’ skipper, Mikel Obi, in the number 10 role as Nigeria faces Poland in an International friendly later tonight. Mikel Obi, could not make it to the game due to an issue in renewing his work permit with Tianjin Teda, but he is expected to be in London on Tuesday for another friendly against Serbia. A source on camp told Complete Sports Nigeria that the Leicester city man, Iheanacho will get to take the position as he has been playing off center forward Odion Ighalo in a 4-2-3-1 formation and that there was the possibility that this is the formation tactic the Super Eagles will adopt against Poland. “Iheanacho will play Mikel’s position against Poland barring any last minute tactical switch,” the source, a member of the squad, told CSN. “That’s his preferred role and I think he will do well there. He is solid and quick in his decision making.” The source added. Despite his goal-less run until about a week ago when he scored his first goal for his home club, Leicester City, after an extended period, Iheanacho has been quite impressive on the pitch. In Nigeria’s last friendly game against Argentina, Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr, played a 3-5-2 formation tactic with Iheancho and Iwobi on pair-attack and the game ended remarkably well after the Eagles came from one goal down to defeat the Argies 4-2. The game which will kick-off by 8:45 pm GMT+1 at the Municipal Stadium, Wraclow in Poland, will be live on Supersport. However a local TV station (Africa Independent Television) may also broadcast it, but confirmation reports are yet to reach us on the viability of the information.
