Nigeria Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Sunday Dare, has expressed delight at the performances of Nigerian wrestlers in recent time and has stated that it gives him hope that Nigeria will excel at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics in Japan this year. Mr. Dare, during an inspection of the Wrestling Gym in Bayelsa State, expressed his excitement at touring the gym and also identified wrestling as one of the most successful sports in Nigeria’s athletic history.

Odunayo (Adekuoroye) is now number one, we also have Blessing (Oborodudu) doing well. The wrestling team outings have been fantastic from Italy a couple of weeks ago to Algiers, excellent performances.They have brightened our hope for medals at the Olympics and we celebrate these young agile wrestlers…We are at the theatre of wrestling, the home of the Nigerian Wrestling Federation where Nigerian athletes really camp, I am impressed with what I have seen and also impressed with the efforts being made to complete the outstanding project here

The efforts of the President and board members of the Nigerian Wrestling Federation was commended by the minister who also thanked the Bayelsa State government for providing funds and ensuring the completion of the project. Mr. Dare also promised that the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development will partner with the Bayelsa State government to ensure the gym is made a befitting theatre for Nigerian wrestlers.
