Polio, the paralysing disease which affects children, is no longer endemic in Nigeria. The World Health Organisation made this announcement on Friday, 25th September, 2015. Earlier this year, the organisation declared Nigeria polio-free for a year. Read also: Nigeria Declared Polio-free For a Year This latest achievement takes Nigeria off the list of countries where polio is endemic. “We Nigerians are proud today,” said Dr. Ado Muhammad, the Executive Director of National Primary Health Care Development Agency, Nigeria. “With local innovation and national persistence, we have beaten polio. We know our vigilance and efforts must continue in order to keep Nigeria polio-free,” he added.
