Super Eagles of Nigeria defeated their Swaziland counterparts 2-0 yesterday at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt, Rivers State to book their place in the final round of the 2018 World Cup qualifiers. Nigeria went into the game deadlocked with Swaziland after the first-leg finished goalless in Swaziland five days ago. Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh sprang a few surprises in his team selection, dropping Chelsea midfielder John Mikel Obi to the bench for the must-win encounter. The first half was a cagey affair; Nigeria attacking from the get-go whilst Swaziland sat back and defended everything Eagles threw at them. However, Eagles took the lead five minutes after the restart through the impressive Moses Simon who curled a beautiful freekick past the Swaziland wall. Super Eagles and the coaching crew seemed relieved after the goal and took great control of the game afterwards. Efe Ambrose rose above the Swaziland defence with a few minutes left to play to secure the much needed win for Nigeria and send the home fans into raptures. The next round of qualifiers will feature 20 teams in five groups with the winners of the groups qualifying automatically for the football showpiece in Russia in 2018. Nigeria Line Up: Carl Ikeme; Musa Abdullahi, Efe Ambrose, Austine Obaroakpo, Chima Akas (subbed by Elderson Echejile); Ogenyi Onazi, Sylvester Igbonu, Paul Onobi; Ahmed Musa (subbed by Obafemi Martins), Odion Ighalo, Moses Simon (subbed by Ezekiel Bassey).
