The Nigerian Professional Football League Champions Plateau United, have been thrust out of the Aiteo Cup tournament in their second leg of the quarter-finals against Niger Tornadoes in Jos, with a game score aggregate of 4:2. The Tornadoes, had last week Wednesday, defeated the NPFL champions with 2-nil in the first leg of the game and on Sunday, finished off the second leg with a stalemate 2:2. The efforts of Plateau United against 10-man Tornadoes in the second leg was commendable, but this was not enough to put them in the semifinals, as the Niger Tornadoes already had a 2 goal lead from their first leg, and hence progressed into the semi-finals. Tornadoes player, Ibrahim Babawo scored the first goal in the 25th minute, putting his team in the lead; at the 40th minute, Isah Hussaini scored a penalty shot and made the scores 2-nil in favour of the Tornadoes. Meanwhile, Zango Abdulkadir of Niger Tornadoes was sent out of the game following a red card in the 54th minute. Plateau United was awarded a penalty in the 52nd minute and Bature Yaro scored their first goal. Plateau United pressed on 10-man Tornadoes but only succeeded in putting in a second penalty goal from Yaro in the 90th minute ending the game at 2:2. In other second-leg of the quarter-finals matches, Sunshine Stars defeated visiting Osun United 3-1 to advance a 3-2 aggregate while Aiteo cup holders Ifeanyi-Ubah routed ABS 1-0 to proceed through 4-0 on aggregate. Akwa United played Katsina United Feeders on Sunday in their first quarter-finals match and completely vanquished any hope the feeders have in making it into the Semi-finals as the game ended 7-nil in favour of Akwa United. Katsina Feeders would have to pull off a Goliath move in order to even the scores against Akwa United in katsina next week.   Featured Image Credit: Score Nigeria
