Other Nigerians to have won the award in the past include the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mohammed Sanusi II, who won the first edition of the award in 2011. President of the African Development Bank (AFDB), Akinwunmi Adesina, has won the award twice (2013, and 2019) for his exploits as president of the AFDB and his outstanding career as an agriculturist and financial expert. Africa’s richest man and president of the Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, won the prize in 2014. A delighted Iweala while reacting to the news, dedicated the prize to Africans battling health and socio-economic challenges in a COVID-19 era that has disrupted the global economic order.
