Nigeria Football Federation has suspended four clubs for match fixing after two incredible score lines of 79-0 and 67-0 in a promotion play-off.
Plateau United Feeders FC, Akurba FC, Babayaro FC and Police Machine FC are the four clubs involved in the scandal.
In promotion play-offs into the Nigeria Nationwide League, the lowest tier of Nigeria’s domestic league, on Monday, Police Machine FC outscored Babayaro FC 67-0, while Plateau United Feeders beat Akurba FC 79-0 prompting the NFF to take disciplinary action.
All the teams involved in the scandal were vying for a slot in the Nigerian Nationwide League Division 3 with the winners of the promotion play-offs qualifying to play in the division.
NFF Organising Committee Chairman, Chima Umeh was livid with the outcome of the games.
“It is unacceptable. This is a scandal of huge proportions. The four teams involved are suspended immediately and indefinitely, pending further sanctions. We will investigate this matter thoroughly and get to the bottom of it,” Umeh said on Tuesday.
