The Nigeria Football Federation have joined the whole nation in mourning the death of former football administrator, Chief Oyuki Jackson Obaseki, who passed on the morning of Sunday, August 18, 2019.
The former Chairman of the Nigeria Premier League and 2nd Vice President of the Nigeria Football Federation died in Benin City, Edo state where he hails from. Late Obaseki, who died aged 75, will be remembered for his strong commitment, dedication, and vision towards raising the level of the elite division of the Nigerian Professional Football League.
Obaseki’s position as Chairman of the Nigerian Premier League meant he was automatically the 2nd Vice President of the NFF between 2006-2010, during the presidency of Alhaji Sani Lulu Abdullahi. He was also the pioneer chairman of the Interim Management Committee that was inaugurated in February 2005, the body in 2006 transmuted into the Nigeria Premier League. The late football chief, also known as Alias Moving Train, held the traditional title of Ohe of Bini Kingdom, a high-ranking position in Benin, one of the oldest kingdoms on earth.
A truly big tree has fallen. We remember very much the work that Chief Obaseki did to promote and project the elite division of the Nigeria League during his time as chairman. It was difficult to match his passion and energy as he pursued his vision for an independent League body… He took everything that needed to be done as a project and drove everyone else around him hard to play their own roles appropriately
