The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has commiserated with the head coach of the country’s national team, Gernot Rohr, over the death of his mother.
Elizabeth Rohr, aged 97, died on Thursday, September 12, 2019 and the country’s football governing body has taken to its official Twitter handle to sympathize with the Eagles boss.
Earlier this week, the German tactician led the Super Eagles to a 2-2 draw against Ukraine in an international friendly held at the Dnipro Stadium, Ukraine, on Tuesday, September 10, 2019.
Rohr, who has also handled the Gabonese national team in the past, has been in charge of the three-time African champions since 2016. He qualified and led the Super Eagles to a group stage finish at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. The 66-year-old German would go on to lead the Eagles to a third place finish at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations held in Egypt. Gernot Rohr’s contract with the country’s football body runs until June 2020 and is currently charged with the responsibility of qualifying the West African nation for the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon, and the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
