Waldrum, 64, was a midfielder during his playing days and previously worked as the chief coach of the U-23 national team of the United States. The American also worked as the Head Coach of the Trinidad and Tobago national team from 2014-2016. Waldrum who is notable for working with American collegiate women’s teams last served as the head coach of the University of Pittsburgh before his appointment as the new coach of the Super Falcons. In his new role, Waldrum will team up with Nigerian coaches as retired Falcons captain and goalkeeper, Ann Chiejne is set to work as his first assistant, while the second assistant position will be filled by Wemimo Mathew Olanrewaju. The goalkeepers’ trainer post will be handled by Auwar Bashir Makwalla.

The President of the NFF, Amaju Pinnick, revealed that over 40 coaches were interviewed for the Falcons job which saw Waldrum make the last four before grabbing the job. There are high hopes that the American will see to the continued dominance of the Super Falcons on the continental level, and better representation at the global level due to his vast experience in the world of women’s football.
