Ex-Nigerian footballer, Ndubuisi Egbo made history on Sunday, July 19, 2020, after becoming the first Nigerian coach to win a European topflight trophy after winning the Albanian league title as coach of KF Tirana. A 1-0 loss to Vllaznia saw second-placed, Kukesi, lose the contest for the league title as Tirana were confirmed champions with two games to spare, seven points ahead of Kukesi (Tirana currently has 69 points while Kukesi is on 62 points).

Egbo who was part of the silver-winning 2000 Africa Cup of Nations Super Eagles squad and the 2002 bronze-winning Eagles team, could also become the first African coach to win a European double if Tirana wins the final of the Albania Cup scheduled to hold on August 1, 2020. With this feat, Tirana has now become champions of the Albanian league for the 25th time. It will be recalled that the last time the club won the title was in 2009, but the former Super Eagles goalkeeper has now restored the club to glory as they look set to complete a historic domestic double. Egbo’s achievement with the European side means they have booked their place in the qualification stages of the 2020/2021 UEFA Champions League season.
