The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) announced on Monday that it would sanction MTN, Airtel and Globacom for going against its directive on automatic migration to Pay-As-You-Go data bundle. According to the Nation News, this was declared in its
2015 Third Quarter Compliance Monitoring and Enforcement Report.
The sanction was centered on several complaints from subscribers on automatic migration of data bundle package to Pay-As-You-Go billing, leading to undesirable depletion of data on their mobile devices.
The commission had previously directed all service providers – in August 2015, to be exact – to comply with data bundle directions. They are also to notify users upon depletion of data before due date via SMS, giving information regarding the tariff/ billing rate for automatic migration, as cited by the News Agency of Nigeria.
