If you’re still contemplating about registering to get national identification number think no further, hurry and grab your possession now. This is as a result of the announcement made by Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Mohammed Babadede on Tuesday. As from January 1, 2018, no international passport would be issued by the Nigeria Immigration Service without the applicant providing National Identification Number(NIN). Similarly, no foreigner residing in the country would be issued permit without having an identification number. Nigerians would now have to present their National Identification Number before they can obtain or renew passports. The comptroller general said that NIMC (National Identity Management Commission) staff would be working in passports offices so as to allow those who want to obtain their national identity card do so whenever they want to collect their passport as he believes that the initiative would assist government confirmed taxpayers easily. This is a step in the direction of having a centralized database, one located, stored and maintained in a single location for Nigerians.
