Adebayo whose late father is Nigerian is eligible to feature for Nigeria at the Tokyo 2021 Olympics if he makes a switch as he is unlikely to make the US team after failing to make the final squad for the 2019 International Basketball Federation (FIBA) World Cup despite making the provisional roster. Kida is a great admirer of the US-based star and has revealed his desire to see him feature for Nigeria at the Olympics and beyond.
‘Having Bam in our national team is a possibility that we are considering as a federation ahead of the 2020 Olympics and beyond. We are excited about how far he has gone and what he can achieve in his career with D’Tigers if he chooses to play for Nigeria.’ Musa Kida

Adebayo, 23, plies his trade in the NBA with Miami Heat who just lost the NBA finals to Los Angeles Lakers. The Nigerian also featured in the NBA All-Star Game which held on February 2020. D’Tigers has competed at the Olympic Games on two occasions which saw them finish on the 10th spot in the London 2012 Olympics, and would go a level below in the Rio 2016 Olympics as they finished 11th. The team qualified for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics which will now hold in 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic, through the 2019 FIBA World Cup.
