Pinterest

Goodbye Sunday, Hello Monday… Getting around to motivate yourself and get through a task can prove hard. On most days, the inspirational quotes on your walls and the cups of coffee you gulp down may not do the magic of maintaining the drive to do a task. But being capable of self-motivating yourself is one skill that distinguishes you from everyone else.

Motivation can, at first start as a personal affirmation. You need to know what motivates you, you need to continue pushing forward even when you do not feel like it. How do you do this? Read on to discover the several strategies that may help you combat procrastination and low drive for work.
  1. Set attainable goals: It is important to set realistic goals and targets that will help you achieve the best. Research has proven that goal-setting is important for people who are looking to get better at a skill or at their job. People with concrete goals will achieve more than those with mere abstract ambitions. Set specific objectives and goals that lead to success. Whilst achieving your set goals and objectives, you can try to make the process less monotonous by doing activities that you find rewarding.
  2. Reward yourself at the right time: Performing some hard tasks can become easy when you attach simple and fun rewards to their completion. These rewards may act as motivators for you. The rewards you plan to get for yourself should complement the hard work you put in and the quality of performance.

  1. Try to sustain your energy levels: People are prone to starting a task with so much enthusiasm but then they tire out in the middle and eventually lose their motivation. To help you sustain your level of performance when accomplishing a task, you should set smaller goals and targets that serve as launch pads to achieve bigger ones. Also, try to focus on what you have been able to do so far and afterwards, turn your attention to what you are yet to do. The shift in perspective can help you stay motivated.
  2. Be sure to use other people’s help: Since humans are social beings, it is possible for us to learn from the actions of other people. Getting close to high-performing colleagues can increase our drive for work. Instead of getting demotivated just by seeing our efficient and successful colleagues do their jobs, we can ask them for pieces of advice and recommendations that will be beneficial to us. In addition, our close friends, mentors, and family members who want to see us succeed will motivate us to do better because they would not like to see us fail. Therefore, their belief in our ability to succeed can sour us to do more work.
Self-motivation can be one of the hardest skills to learn but it is key to our success in life. In the pursuit of our own goals, it is important that we set adequate motivators, establish rewards for a job well done, focus on either the targets we are yet to meet or the ones we have met already, and use the social influence of others to our benefit.
