Super Eagles Technical Adviser, Gernot Rohr, has debunked rumors that former Nigerian international, Victor Moses, would be making a return to the Nigerian team ahead of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals.
Moses, who opted to take an extended breather from the Nigeria national team in August last year to focus on his career and family, has not made any moves to indicate that he may be interested in returning to the team.
As a matter of fact, the Chelsea loanee is rather enjoying his stay with his new club, Fenerbahce, where he has scored two goals in the last six matches in the Super Lig.
On whether Moses might get a callback to the team, Rohr told the official website of Confederation of African Football, that he is unsure about Moses’ return.
“I was against his international retirement and, if he changed his mind, he must tell me but I have no information about it. We’ll see.”
Speaking about Mikel Obi, another member of the team who was omitted from the AFCON list, Rohr said the captain expressly said he needed time to build himself before he can make another appearance for Nigeria.
“He has arrived in Middlesbrough recently. He told me he was not ready and needs to work after his knee injury in China.
“He did not play all winter either. He is not ruled out for the AFCON but could not make that match in Asaba. We will see for the future.”
