The Super Eagles’ current AFCON qualifiers campaign is yet to enter second gear as the Super Eagles sit third on the log with one point from two matches. The Super Eagles scored two goals in their loss to Republic of Congo, and a barren draw against the Bafana-Bafana of South Africa.
What was most glaring in those matches was the Eagles’ inability to create and utilize opportunities. This could be solved by the two in form players in the English Premier League and MLS League.
Victor Moses and Obafemi Martins have been very consistent in their club sides this season. While the former has been creating chances for his club side with some exciting runs, the latter has been consistently banging in goals for his American club side.
Although Obafemi Martins has not been in the Super Eagles for some time now, he has definitely not hidden his desire to play for the Super Eagles again. This season has seen him flourish in the striking department, with his tally currently standing at 13 for the season with MLS club Seattle Sounders. Additionally, he has been developing in his all-round game, attested to by nine assists among other chances created.
Victor Moses on the other hand was left out of the Eagles for the last double header in Nigeria and South Africa due to his lack of fitness as implied by the Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi. He has nevertheless impressed on his Stoke City debut, and just last weekend created two chances that resulted in goals for his club side.
With Mikel Obi currently lackadaisical at the Midfield and the failure of Emmanuel Emenike to get back to the form that saw him net four goals en-route to our Nations Cup glory, our messiahs might just be Victor Moses and a proven Striker like Obafemi Martins.
