  Nigerian women’s national team defender Onome Ebi has said the 9-time African champions have been condemned to beat the Ivoirian women’s national team to qualify for the 2022 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations in Morocco and FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The Super Falcons just concluded a nine-day camping exercise in Abuja and the Minsk of Belarus star sounded optimistic of the team’s chances during a chat with the team’s media officer on Tuesday. Onome Ebi recalled that the Ivoirians deprived Nigeria of the ticket to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and vowed that the African champions are prepared to pay them back in their own coins when they clash in a two-legged play-off next year.

‘I can tell you that we still nurse the pain of missing out of the Tokyo Olympics as a result of the loss to Cote d’Ivoire in the qualifying series. This time, we will repay them in their coins. At the age of 38, Onome Ebi holds the record of being the first African footballer (male and female categories) to have featured in five FIFA World Cup tournaments. She achieved the feat during the 2019 edition of the global showpiece and will be hoping to feature in her sixth World Cup if the Falcons qualify.
