Expectations are rising to an all-time high as we look forward to this year’s Access Bank Lagos City Marathon, scheduled to hold on Saturday, February 2, 2018.

In the past week, more high profile runners have registered for the 2019 edition of the race, giving organisers and fans alike, quite the thrill as the race draws near.

With big marathon names like David Barmasai Tumo from Kenya, who won the 2011 Dubai Marathon; his countrymen, Moses Kigen Kipkosgei and Jacob Kibet Chulyo; as well as Samuel Gebre Michael, who is now on the books for Australia.

Female athletes also are not left out, as many of the world’s top-rated marathon runners including Agnes Jeruto Kiptocich, who came second in the 2017 Paris Mthon; Caroline Cheptanui Kilel, winner of the 2011 Boston Marathon; Georgina Rono and Risper Jemeli Kismayo, have all registered for the big race.

Lagos City Marathon fans everywhere can expect this year’s edition to be the grandest ever, with more first-rate athletes gearing up for the event.

According to the organizers, about 35 gold, 13 silver and 12 bronze label runners, have all registered to partake in the race.

Speaking to the media, the General Manager of the race, Yusuf Alli, stated that the marathon has surpassed requirements for a bronze label, and with its rapidly growing popularity and available infrastructures for the race, it is worth a gold label from the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), and the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS).

This is fantastic… It is obvious that top runners across the world like the Lagos Marathon, as they have been signifying their interests from Kenya to even Australia.
