Super Eagles Technical director, Gernot Rohr, has lauded skipper Mikel Obi for his early arrival to the Eagles camp in Asaba to prepare for the 2019 African Cup of Nations showdown in Egypt.

The playmaker has not made an appearance for the Nigerian senior men’s team since their exit from the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, and there have been rumors that Mikel may call time with the team soon.

However, his early camp arrival and drive to see the Eagles succeed at the AFCON has debunked every tittle-tattle surrounding the Nigerian’s retirement plans.

Mikel has at all times been a professional and the fact that he arrived here early means that he is very committed to do well and to lead us.

We expect 25 players here but some of them cannot come in today because they had games – like [Odion] Ighalo came yesterday from China — Alex Iwobi is also being expected.”
